Exposure Blending in Photoshop & Photomatix: Part 2 – Photo Premium
Download Source Files
HDR photography is always a controversial issue, and it’s an easy to technique to do badly. There are plenty of automatic scripts, actions and processes out there that aim to simplify the process, but the result is often a touch too dramatic.
In the second part of this Premium tutorial, we’ll be taking a look at how to create a realistic exposure-blended image using Photomatix!

Advanced HDR in Photomatix
Before getting started with this tutorial, I’d recommend taking a look at Part 1. This dealt with setting up the photo shoot, and creating a realistic HDR using only Photoshop.
Simon starts the second instalment of this two part series by introducing Photomatix 4 and explaining how we can make the HDR process a little simpler using this helpful piece of software. The tutorial starts by importing your series of images into Photomatix, and understanding the various settings available at this stage.
After Photomatix has pre-processed and combined your images, Simon explains the difference between tone mapping and exposure fusion. He showcases the different presets built into the app (some of which are better than others!), to showcase how these work.
The tutorial then moves on to explain the advanced, custom settings available for adjusting your photo. Simon works through the whole process from start to finish, with the result being a realistic, accurate HDR image!
