Photo Critique #139

Friday Photo Critique is our weekly community project, where we publish a photograph submitted by one of our wonderful readers, then ask you all to offer constructive feedback on the image. It’s a great way to learn more about photography, express your viewpoint, and have your own image critiqued!

Quick Ground Rules

  1. Play nice! We’ve deliberately chosen photographs that aren’t perfect, so please be constructive with any criticism.
  2. Feel free to offer any type of advice – composition, lighting, post-processing etc.
  3. You can also link to photographs that you feel offer a great example of this type of image shot exceptionally well.

Without further ado, here is this week’s candidate for Friday Photo Critique!

Awesome picture, I didn’t even notice the cast because her smile just stole the show.

      I totally agree

Agree with Tom — wonderful photo and the smile steals the scene. The shallow depth of field really works well here. The only suggestion I would make is to get rid of those two white dots above her head by either cleaning them up in PhotoShop or by using a slightly tighter crop.

I agree! Great shot of happy, carefree youth! I also like the hue used.

Gorgeous photo. Shallow DOF works great, you managed to get the focus pretty much spot-on. As with Bill I would probably crop out the two bokeh spots just above her head (but that is really just me being pedantic!).

Image might have also benefited from a reflector behind & to the left (our left) just to pick up a few more highlights on the hair and a little more light on the left of her face.

It is a lovely shot though :)

Such an amazing picture that captures such a great expression on this little girl. Like a lot of other people, I didn’t notice the cast until I read the caption!

Simply put, this is an awesome shot of a beautiful little girl with a great smile. If she were any happier, I would think the the cast was only a prop. Great use of using a wide aperture to isolate the subject. I’m also a sucker for black and white/sepia tones.

Fantastic picture and capture! Everything is great, but I would clone out or heal the two white spots above her head.

I think you really captured the moment here. The smile and the cheerful mood are just great. I really like the shalow DOF as well. Nicely done!

It would have been better if the right hand is clearly shown. In this way, we will have a clear picture that Indeed that the little girl has a cast. Otherwise, the photo is awesome.

Thanks everyone for your CC…I will keep it in mind next time I shoot. I really appreciate it!
