Photo Critique #116

Photo Critique #116

Friday Photo Critique is our weekly community project, where we publish a photograph submitted by one of our wonderful readers, then ask you all to offer constructive feedback on the image. It’s a great way to learn more about photography, express your viewpoint, and have your own image critiqued!

Quick Ground Rules

  1. Play nice! We’ve deliberately chosen photographs that aren’t perfect, so please be constructive with any criticism.
  2. Feel free to offer any type of advice – composition, lighting, post-processing etc.
  3. You can also link to photographs that you feel offer a great example of this type of image shot exceptionally well.

Without further ado, here is this week’s candidate for Friday Photo Critique!

Nice shot though I would have liked to see the full face.

The photo is good, but I think it might have been better to have put the hand/finger on the right 1/3rd line and included more of the baby’s face. I do like that the baby is put in the background by the shallow DOF.

The face is getting cut off right when the eye begins, so that’s kinda disturbing. Just moving the camera over until the whole face was in the frame and the finger was in the right third would’ve been nice. And if both of the criteria can’t be met at the same time, you could’ve tried rotating camera until they did. The thumb probably wouldn’t be in the frame, but it would’ve been better, I think.

Superb photo…only thing I would do is crop across the top just below the white space between the fingers in the hand; and crop down the right side a fraction right of the baby’s hand. Gives it much more impact.

Good shot Kiran. I have to agree with the guys that suggested that you reposition the photo in order to see the whole face of the child.

    Personally…I think it’s a wonderful shot and I wouldn’t change a thing!
