Photo Critique #113

Photo Critique #113

Friday Photo Critique is our weekly community project, where we publish a photograph submitted by one of our wonderful readers, then ask you all to offer constructive feedback on the image. It’s a great way to learn more about photography, express your viewpoint, and have your own image critiqued!

Quick Ground Rules

  1. Play nice! We’ve deliberately chosen photographs that aren’t perfect, so please be constructive with any criticism.
  2. Feel free to offer any type of advice – composition, lighting, post-processing etc.
  3. You can also link to photographs that you feel offer a great example of this type of image shot exceptionally well.

Without further ado, here is this week’s candidate for Friday Photo Critique!

Toes, with a bit help of the sands, formed a nice triangular- curvy shape. This leads the eyes to the big toe at the top. I also like the shadow of the toes, the light and the great contrast. It also raises the question of if the subject is dead, which to me adds a bit of humor.

I really like this shot for some reason. It gives me a very eerie “buried-alive” feeling. The idea to crop out any other parts of the body was a good one as I think it allows the viewer to make a mental leap, as to whether the subject is alive or dead, on their own. The detail and crispness of the shot is amazing, particularly the ridge detail in the toes.

I would have liked to see the image cropped a little looser so that the foot wasn’t “BAM” right there, in your face. Perhaps moving the foot to the lower right portion of the frame as well instead of dead center may have helped with composition.

All in all, it’s a fun image for me and I enjoy the ambiguity of the image as well. Is the subject alive on a beach or is it dead in a land fill? Nicely done.

Very nice. Unlike Aaron, I like the way the foot is ‘BAM’ right there in your face. That is what makes it so striking; Along with the ultra sharp B&W treatment on the foot and the perfect DOF.

Me gusta mucho, la textura que sobresale de la foto y un sabor a tierra que entra por los ojos.

Another vote for the “In Your Face” sharp and central composition. I think this is a great shot. The sharpness and monochrome gives the foot a gloved feel as if the foot glove has been discarded in the sand.

I think it’s a great shot and awesome sharpness & B&W processing. At the same time, I think it’s a very picture with many powerful messages.
