Friday Photo Critique #28

Friday Photo Critique #28

Friday Photo Critique is our weekly community project, where we publish a photograph submitted by one of our wonderful readers, then ask you all to offer constructive feedback on the image.

It’s a great way to learn more about photography, express your viewpoint, and have your own image critiqued. Your response will also be displayed with a link to your website or portfolio, so be sure to enter it correctly when submitting a comment!

Quick Ground Rules

  1. Play nice! We’ve deliberately chosen photographs that aren’t perfect, so please be constructive with any criticism.
  2. Feel free to offer any type of advice – composition, lighting, post-processing etc.
  3. You can also link to photographs that you feel offer a great example of this type of image shot exceptionally well.

Without further ado, here is this week’s candidate for Friday Photo Critique!

I like this picture. The angle, the b&w treatment, even the graininess. You can tell she is tired and It evens makes me wander what is she thinking.

However, i don’t like how the other fighter looks, it kinda looks like a torso to me. Because you can barely see her head and her leg looks weird.

I love the photograph. Since I am not familiar with this sport and its photography I’ll critique it throughout the day and post my ideas and thoughts later on.

I love this and I must say I am struggling to find fault with it. It gives you a real sense of movement, action and focus. I especially like the use of the rings rope to divide the shot.

    Superb.

Great photo Haley. I like the tense action in this frame. This is one of those times when you want to shoot like crazy, waiting for that one moment when the energy explodes and you capture that dramatic punch that could come 20 frames later. Great shot.

I don’t think the black and white does justice to the shot.

I really like this shot. The black & white with the grain adds a great feel. A better shot would deffinatley be a punch, but I really like the look in her eyes and the tension in her musceles. Gets you wondering what’s going to come next.

The only thing I would point out is the odd spots above her head. They are a little distracting. Otherwise a fine photograph.

Very good shot overall. But as always, nothing is perfect.I don not like all the noise in the picture.I do understand that it’s used for artistic purpose sometimes, but in this case it’s just an annoying noise for me.
Second,I would zoom out a little bit to capture the second fighter completely,OR more likely I would zoom in more

first of all great capture. i think the picture and the moment and feeling it conveys are awesome. i dont mind the noise cause i can only imagine the lighting conditions in there. the only thing that concerns me though is that thing that looks like some light source or something. it appears as if sticking out of the main fighter’s head. if i wear you i wouldve burnt it. other than that i think the picture looks great. good job =)

liked the shot- would have liked it better if it was wider. Otherwise perfect!

I love the shot. The composition is perfect. The black and white give it depth and a mood that wouldn’t be there if it were color.

The only thing I would suggest is that since there is grain in it you should play up the grain even more and I would soften the other fighter a bit to just keep the eye from wandering.

    GREAT JOB!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! As an amateur/experimental photographer I need all of the help and suggestions I can get, and I really appreciate the constructive criticism. I’ll take all of it into account for my next boxing shoot!
