Steve Winter: On the Trail of the Tiger

Steve Winter: On the Trail of the Tiger

Just because you didn’t get to go to that awesome photography conference doesn’t mean that you can’t learn something from the pros! Occasionally, we’ll be featuring a recommended photography lecture or interview on Phototuts+.

Check out this National Geographic Live! event. Award-winning photographer Steve Winter traveled to India, Sumatra and Thailand to document the disappearance of Asian Tigers. There are only 3200 left and Winter hopes his work adds to the fight to save them.

Wow… Joe… where on earth did that vitriol come from? Sounds like you have… a jealousy issue? or something. I wasn’t all that enamored with the video but seems like you’re probably the one with the issue.

      What a moron.
I bet you can do better.
Even if it has been done before, these are beautiful images and there is a passion that you will never get.
Please find another hobby or profession, your contribution to this site is zilch

I am tired of these photographers, they do nothing new but gets all this attention for basically showing off with some huge telephoto lens. Hell I got a 200-400, what am i suppose to do, go shoot some tigers and make a video. I try to tell my students to ignore this image of photographers and their expensive gears, but concentrate on understanding, aperture, shutter and framing. I am not impressed!!!

Joe, you shouldn’t be teaching anyone anything about photography if you can understand that he wasn’t just using a bazooka for a lens.

Did you not see those badass remote controlled cars with cameras mounted on them? Or listen when he talked about camera-traps? Yeah, that stuff is really to control consistently in ultra-humid conditions that are filled with beasts that will eat you if they get the chance.

Cameras are just tools, and Steve Winter seems to be very skilled with his tool set. This idea must be much to complex for your limited mind to grasp, and I’d advise you not to think too hard about it, lest you poop your pants. Or someone else’s pants, that’s been known to happen ;)

Sounds great. The tiger issue deserves as much attention as it can get. With all the sub-species we have already lost any initiative is a good initiative.
