70+ Inspirational Interior Design Shots

Being able to take great photos of interiors can be an extremely useful skill to have in your possession. If you ever need to sell or rent out a property, it is essential to have great photographs to present the property in the best possible way to try and secure a sale.

For professionals involved in the interior design business, it’s a great way to showcase their work to potential customers. For others, it’s just a great way to capture their home in its present state, to preserve that moment in time. Homes are consistently developing, as people grow older and change, the scenery around them and their requirements change with them. It can be enjoyable just to look back through old photos of ‘home’ to observe how it has developed and changed over the years.

When Shooting

There are quite a few practicalities involved when photographing interiors. Here are a few tips to get you started.

It’s almost impossible to photograph a whole room in its entirety (unless you do something clever like stitch together shots to create a 360 degree panorama), so select one area of the room to photograph at the time. Consider the shape of the room and which aspects of the room you want to highlight.

With that in mind, it’s also a very good idea to use a wide angle lens to enable you to fit in as much of the room as possible, something such as 18mm would be ideal, but anything up to around 35mm would do.

It’s important to think about including some detail shots in your interior portfolio. So once you’ve captured the room in the larger scale shots, have a look around and consider whether there are any particular points of interest that might make for some good detail shots.

Throughout your interior photography endeavors, be sure not to forget your basic compositional techniques to ensure you generate eye catching images. Think about using symmetry within your shots, employ the rule of thirds, fill the frame, use negative space and make sure your lines are straight!
